Using Compassionate Dialogue to Move Toward Repair

February 17, 2026

It can be hard to sit down with someone you disagree with and try to have any conversation, let alone a compassionate and productive one. But that approach is not only possible…it is the way we will be able to move forward.

I’m here to tell you that an issue can be resolved, no matter how hard it is. If you’re still thinking about it, it is still impacting you. The continued thoughts tell us that you’re still processing and need some form of Repair. This is true even if it’s been weeks, months, or years!

There is a path toward healing. And today, in Part Eight of our series “Compassionate Dialogue 101: Quick Communication Tips for Problem Solving and Healthy Conflict Resolution,” I will share it with you.

In this series, each month, I take around five minutes to talk through a cornerstone of Compassionate Dialogue, and I always leave you with a resource or something to think about moving forward.

If you missed Parts One through Seven, please go back and revisit those videos. Particularly for today, you’ll want to pay special attention to Part One, which teaches you how to Recognize your feelings. Recognize is the first step in The RIR Protocol, which is how we put Compassionate Dialogue into action. Also, check out Part Seven—last month’s video—where we talked about Interrupt, the second step in the Protocol.

The third and final step is Repair. In this short video, I will share how it works.
